Jodie Akinsanya is an African inspired fashion designer.
As a designer her aim is to be as ethical as possible in terms of fabric sourcing and giving back to the community. All Ankara fabric in this collection was sourced in Lagos, Nigeria. Her inspiration for fashion has always included her Yoruba, Nigerian heritage which can be seen in the bold colours and prints, to the headwraps and embellishments. She also draws inspiration from nature.
For this collection her silhouettes were inspired by her travels to Jamaica last summer, where she came across stunning botanical scenery and leaves with really fascinating veins which inspired the panelling throughout her collection. They also influenced her colour palette.
She wanted to create a capsule resort collection, to have a weeks’ worth of holiday outfits. So, she made each outfit interchangeable. She combined ankara fabrics with digital print made by herself! Her collection exudes opulence via generous volume silhouettes, which makes the wearer feel fabulous and unapologetic for being the best dressed in the room.
